Is It Real or Is It…

A client mentioned her husband prefers using a liquid egg substitute rather than the real thing.  She wanted to know if my thoughts on whether this was good or not.

I understand that many people like the convenience of just opening a container rather than cracking eggs.  However, I recommend eating fresh, whole natural foods as opposed to packaged, processed ones.

You can look at the ingredient information on the container and see that these substitutes are 99% egg white – which in itself is perfectly fine.  However to give it the look of real eggs, they add certain natural ingredients like beta carotene as well as “natural flavors and colors.”

Because they are listed separately that indicates that there are chemicals that are not being specifically listed by name.  So basically you are eating flavored, colored egg whites.  To me that doesn’t make sense!

Why not just eat fresh eggs or egg whites?  The substitutes also have more sodium than fresh eggs.  If you have cholesterol issues, don’t be frightened into thinking eggs are totally off limits.  The studies done years ago that showed eggs raise cholesterol were commissioned by the cereal companies for obvious reasons.

Eggs are a nearly perfect protein food created by God.  Thinking we can improve on His design is crazy!  That’s my opinion.
