Extremes are Not the Answer for Losing Weight

Don't wait another day!

I just read an article online about some of the most extreme and dangerous “diets” that people are actually trying. I am absolutely amazed that a person would eat cotton balls (yes – cotton balls like the ones you use to take nail polish off!) or swallow tapeworm eggs (I could gag just thinking about that) or spend thousands of dollars to have a doctor sew a patch on their tongue to make it too painful to chew and swallow solid food! Really!

Seriously, I understand being desperate to get yourself on the right track – but ingesting a parasite so that whatever food you do eat doesn’t even get to nourish your body? It sometimes seems to me people are willing to do these extreme, and very ridiculous things but don’t want to exercise their will and just clean up their eating habits. They’re willing to eat cotton balls but not fresh vegetables and clean water. What’s wrong with that picture?

Losing weight is not always simple depending on the person. But it’s definitely not as difficult and complicated as we make it. The basics don’t change – you have to take in less and move more. While it’s true that science and researchers are learning new things about hormones and food additives and how to use that information to make fitness and weight loss more effective – the way our bodies function hasn’t changed.

These intelligently created bodies of ours were created by God to serve us on this earth. We were meant to be active and move our bodies every day; to eat real food that nourishes and fuels us, not packaged chemicals; to drink water that hydrates us, not sodas which are artificially sweetened liquid chemicals; and to get rest and sleep. We can’t separate our physical bodies from our spirits and souls – we are tri-part beings, so keeping our spirits and souls cleansed, nourished, exercised and rested is also critical. It’s how these bodies were created.

Instead of looking for some crazy, extreme diet that promises fast weight loss. Look for a sensible plan that’s based on proven principles.
