Make Each Day a Success

Enjoy the Journey!

Most people who begin a weight loss program focus on that golden day in the future when they will have reached their goal. In fact, for too many, those days in between beginning the plan and the ultimate goal are torture! They look at them as a necessary evil – have to just get through these days to get to where I want to be.

I’m all for having a specific, measurable goal – in fact I think it’s essential to success – especially in weight loss. Without a final destination, how will you know when you’ve arrived? However, focusing solely on that wonderful day in the future is not enough to keep your motivation consistently high enough to carry you to the finish line.

I suggest instead that while you set a long-term, ultimate goal, your focus should be on what you have accomplished toward that goal – today. When you set that goal, hopefully you broke it down into steps along the way – what you intend to accomplish on a daily and weekly basis. I find it is much more encouraging and motivating if you then focus on achieving those daily goals.

Is your goal today to work out for 30 minutes, drink an additional 16 oz. of water and bring a healthy snack to work with you? Keep a daily log and as you accomplish each, mark them off the list. At the end of the day, you would be surprised at how much satisfaction you get from realizing you stuck to your plan. That translates into success – day by day. Let’s be honest – we only choose to repeat positive experiences in our lives. So when you experience success and enjoy that wonderful feeling of accomplishment – you are much more apt to repeat it tomorrow! Therein lies the secret to reaching that ultimate goal.

Focus on keeping yourself going in the right direction day by day and you will reach that ultimate destination of your goal weight.
