Healthy Living: Kindness Does a Body Good

cool to be kindEspecially at this time of year we are more aware of being kind to each other. And that’s a wonderful thing! I think you’ll find this article from HeartMath Institute very eye-opening as to some surprising benefits of kindness you may not be aware of.

You may not realize that your heart makes and releases certain hormones such as oxytocin, adrenalin and dopamine. When you show kindness with a truly sincere motive to help another person, you benefit as well! Your heart releases stress relieving oxytocin as well as endorphins – feel good chemicals. It gives new meaning to Proverbs 11:17: Those who are kind benefit themselves!

That sincere act of generosity – whether giving of your time, donating money or lending a helping hand in some other meaningful way, releases the bonding hormone, oxytocin, which also helps reduce stress in your body. That’s what I call a real win-win!

How do you feel when you perform an act of kindness?

Ann, I like the way the Living Bible quotes Pro. 11:17: “Your own soul is nourished when you are kind; it is destroyed when you are cruel.” How wonderful to see that research backs it up! Happy New Year, my friend!
