I have spoken to people who say, “I think I may be coming down with the flu and I feel awful.” I would suggest some natural supplements and strategies to boost the immune system and fight the bug off. Invariably, nine times out of ten, the response was – “No I’ll just go to the doctor and get Tamiflu.”
In case you are not familiar with it, Tamiflu is an anti-viral drug that is supposed to treat and prevent the flu as well as lowering the risk of developing flu complications. That would be a wonderful thing, if only it was true! The real truth is not only are these drugs not very effective, they also have serious side effects.
Research has shown that these drugs actually only shorten the duration of flu symptoms by a little over 16 hours! The common side effects are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cough, dizziness, headache and fatigue (sounds kind of like the flu on steroids doesn’t it?). If that isn’t bad enough, they can also cause neurotoxicity, which could include side effects like convulsions, delirium or delusions, and suicidal behavior, and at least 14 deaths in children and teens.
I don’t know about you but I would much rather focus on keeping my immune system strong and fighting off seasonal colds and flu with safer, natural alternatives like the ones I share in my Natural First Aid Kit e-book.
How do you protect yourself against seasonal colds and flu?

Ann – what’s your thoughts on the yearly flu vaccine? I’ve never gotten one and have generally stayed pretty healthy. I’m also not one to take medications unless absolutely necessary, and I don’t believe I’ve ever taken Tamiflu
Lesley I’ve never gotten one either and don’t intend to. They’ve been proven to be mostly ineffective so I don’t see the benefit at all. Here’s a link to an article by Dr. Brownstein that’s pretty convincing:http://blog.drbrownstein.com/the-truth-about-the-flu-vaccine/
I’m also with you about not taking any medications unless absolutely necessary. You just have to watch a few commercials in the evening about these “miracle” drugs and listen to the long list of side effects to decide – no thank you!! I had a serious side effect from a so-called “harmless” dental antibiotic earlier this year – so it just fuels my resolve to avoid drugs of all kinds as much as possible.
Ann, thank you for continuing to educate us. Commercials and hype make medicines sound glorious and natural remedies sound scary when medicines can really be scary and dangerous.
Absolutely right Debbie – I found out earlier this year just how scary and dangerous even seemingly “harmless” meds can be!
I got your book but i haven’t read it. I take communion to remind me that health is my right thanks to Jesus. I also take vitamins to give my body the tools it needs to do what God created it to do.
Have a Victorious Day! Marianne

Thank you for buying the book – I hope you find the information valuable. I love what you do and agree – those are two of the best things anyone can do to stay healthy any time of the year.
